Project Spotlight: Des Moines Small Recreation Pond + Landscaping

The beginnings of this project originate years ago, when our client bought a Patio Pond for her wife from our retail store. That little Patio Pond brought a lot of enjoyment and sparked a desire for their own backyard koi pond, which we brought to fruition in November 2022.

One of the biggest inspirations for this project was our Trout Stream from the Sandbox Studio - they loved the meandering stream and statement boulders, so we incorporated those elements into their design. Another important feature was the ability to get into the pond during the hot summer months, so you’ll find some “sitting rocks” in the pond, as well as an external pump to make this pond safe to get into.

Making this backyard interactive and usable was of utmost importance, which is shown in the Montana stone bridge taking you across the pond to a patio complete with Adirondack chairs and a fire pit. The perfect setting for many backyard evenings for years to come!
